Aug 24, 2015 · This is because API restricts certain additive levels for xW20 and xW30 oils in their SN spec, but leaves the xw40 and xw50 grades "exempt" from such restrictions. Therefore, in the case of the two Castrol oils (0W30 and 0W40), they have very similar additive levels, and neither one is "newer" or "better" than the other in terms of formulation.
Oct 29, 2021 · 40 is thicker than 30, but it will be fine. Can I use 0w30 instead of 10w30? The 0w-30 will flow better than the 10w-30 on cold start ups on cold winter days. When both oils are heated up, they will have the same viscosity (i.e., the 30). A potential disadvantage to the 0w-30 is that because 0 is farther away from 30 than 10 is, the 0w-30 may
Apr 22, 2023 · See also Power steering fluid price. Benefits of 0w 20 oil: 0w 20 oil can improve fuel economy by up to 2%. 0w 20 oil protects engines better than other oils, thanks to its higher viscosity. This means that it can help extend engine life. 0w 20 oil is less likely to cause oil leaks, thanks to its thinner consistency.
Aug 13, 2014 · The essence is that you can use 0w20, 5w20, 0w30, 5w30 and probably Xw40 as well without destroying your engine. I myself will probably be using 0w20 when my 3 "free" oil changes are done just to let engine run cooler and get few more miles for gasoline. Edit: I drive FB20 (2.0i) engine with 6MT gearbox.
Apr 21, 2022 · Apr 21, 2022. #10. I tend to favor the lesser spread (5W-20) as it usually uses a higher viscosity base oil, uses less VII, is less volatile, and a higher HTHS/HTFS. I would consider the 0W-20 only if I was having to start it in temps below 0°F. C.
Mar 27, 2008 · The first number relates to cold temperature viscosities and the second number relates to operating temperature viscosities. 0W30 oils are not as thin as water. For that matter, 0W20 oils are not as thin as water either. Also, there is a pretty wide range of viscosities that are still called 30 weight oil.
Oct 14, 2022 · So for summary, 10w 40 is still okay but it is better to use a Synthetic 0W-30 or 5W-30. Is 0W 30 Good for BMW? BMW now recommends 0W30 for all models that called for a LL-01 5W30. Which one is better 0w20 or 5W30? 0W20 also provides better fuel economy than 5W30 in both colder and warmer environments.
May 5, 2019 · The one under consideration here is 0W-20. This is a motor oil of zero thickening ability at cold. This made it a reliable source for better fuel consumption and better exercisability of the engine. 0W-20 helps to improve better fuel economy based upon 0.2-2.3 % improvement obtained when one switch from higher viscosity oils to this one.
Nov 10, 2022 · As 0W20 is a far thinner oil than 5W-20, it is more stable at cold temperature than the latter and flows smoothly through the critical engine parts. 5W-20 is a comparatively thicker viscosity oil and is better for a normal operating temperature range of -22°F to 68°F.
Jul 24, 2009 · Jul 24, 2009. #5. Originally Posted By: Pablo. I can't even imagine why an oil with a 1 cSt higher vis @100°C would have any effect on AFM. You will be fine. Think for a moment about the vis of conventional 5W-30 at say 0°F or 20° or..well you get the picture. 30 grade oil has a 100C cSt range of 9.3 to 12.49.
Aug 7, 2023 · If you aren't tracking the car a day than you should be just fine on 0W20 oil, if your state usually hits over 105F in the Summer 0W30 isn't a bad idea in the long-term for some added protection but if this is just a road trip than there isn't any concern running the factory weight oil.
Jun 1, 2015 · A couple years ago I tried a few different oils in my old Mazda 3 over a few months on my work commute. I could not tell a difference between M1 0w20, PP 5w30, Valvoline 10w30. The difference was smaller than my normal tank to tank variation. This was during mild/warm weather. Not until I poured in some Rotella T6 5w40 could I tell a difference.
0w30 is only needed for very low temperatures. Like -30 degrees. The difference between 0w30 and 5w30 is almost nothing. Run either one. Don't listen to a single person that thinks your engine will blow up. That's nonsense. If manufacturers had that tight of tolerance they would blow up all the time. Hell we run 5w30 in engines that call for 0w20.
Dec 9, 2023 · It’s more fuel-efficient, has a quicker flow rate, and is better suited to colder areas. 5W30 Oil – At lower temperatures, the viscosity of this oil remains the same. It is, however, somewhat thicker than 5W20 at higher temperatures. It may be used at temperatures ranging from -31°F to 95°F / -35°C to +35°C (outside temperature).
